Update on the Blackboard Learning Management System

By: The OCM Team

Blackboard is the new web-based Learning Management System coming to California Child Support Services (CA DCSS) in the spring of 2020. Blackboard is the new platform for housing online training courses, requesting training, training completions, tracking registrations, and the ability to attend trainings on the go. It will be used by all CA DCSS and local child support agency staff and replace Child Support University (CSU) which is no longer sustainable on the existing network. For CA DCSS staff, Blackboard will automate training requests and the compliance tracking system, eliminating the existing labor-intensive manual process used by Human Resources. Fortunately, all existing CSU courses, modules, materials, user profile history, certificates, and Mandatory Continuing Legal Education will migrate to Blackboard.

Currently, the Statewide Training Branch is conducting CSU data migration test runs to ensure a smooth transition to Blackboard and soon the Directors and IT administrative staff from the county and regional child support agencies will be engaged in the process of determining user profiles. Vendor meetings will continue through November 2019 to discuss data migration and system requirements. The next steps will include building the CA DCSS Human Resources tracking system and the migration of CSU to Blackboard. By early spring, all staff, end users and administrators will be trained in the use of Blackboard and after this training is completed it will go live.
