Child Support Awareness Month Events are Ramping Up!

Child Support Awareness Month (CSAM) is nearly upon us and there are hundreds of outreach events scheduled to take place in August across the state. This year’s campaign slogan, “you are there for them, we’ll be there for you,” focuses on educating the public about the various types of free or low-cost services that are available to parents and guardians throughout California. This year’s events range from superior court workshops to Kids Connect community celebrations!

This year, the Bay Area Region Child Support Collaborative (BARCS) expanded their partnership with Cumulus Media to spread the CSAM message live on the air and digitally during June, July, and August. Last year’s successful campaign garnered more than 2.5 million ad impressions, resulting in a 5 percent increase in calls and case openings over the previous year for all BARCS counties.

Tulare County (July 23rd)

On Tuesday July 23rd, the Tulare County Board of Supervisors presented the TCDCSS Management Team and members of the CSAM Workgroup with a Proclamation declaring August as Child Support Awareness Month!

TCDCSS is looking forward to hosting a Resource & Employment Fair in the Visalia Office on Thursday August 8th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m as well as providing 3 Workshops (COAP and Modification/ Crt) for customers to attend from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. TCDCSS’ partner the Employment Connection will be hosting the Re-source & Employment Fair in Porterville on August 20th from 9 a.m to 12 p.m.

Parents who attend the Resource and Employment Fair events will have an opportunity to enter into a drawing for one of two backpacks filled with school supplies. In addition to our two fairs we have scheduled:

• The TCDCSS Banner to be on display on K Street in Tulare for the month of August.
• 8 visits to Tulare County area libraries
• TCDCSS is “Taking Child Support on the Road” to provide a COAP workshop at the Pixley Library
• Outreach team members available to talk to customers at a “Make A Difference Mondays” Visalia Rawhide Game

This is an exciting time for TCDCSS as they kick off a full agenda of events for the month of August for Child Support Awareness Month.

Stanislaus County (July 27th)
Third Annual Kids Connect Community Celebration: To kick-off Child Support Awareness Month, the Stanislaus County Department of Child Support Services, in partnership with the City of Modesto, Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the event for the third year. This free event will be filled with family fun and entertainment. There will be community resources, a Kids Zone with bounce houses, face painting, performances, and drawings for donated prizes.

San Joaquin County (July 30th)
Fourth Annual Block Party: 60 community partners will be on-site with children’s activities and information on services provided to families in the community. There will also be local media, food trucks and entertainment, and the department will be giving free backpacks filled with school supplies and raffle prizes to parents in attendance.

Shasta County (Full Month of August)
Back to School Supply Giveaway: School supplies for local children will be collected and distributed throughout the month.

Santa Cruz County (August 1st – August 16th)
School Supplies Backpack Giveaway: Children who visit the Santa Cruz office will be able to draw a picture of their family and enter to win a backpack full of school supplies.

Sonoma County (August 1st, 7th & 8th)
Sonoma County Child Support Service’s Backpack and School Supply Giveaway: Staff will have a selection of 250 backpacks with school supplies for children to be given out at the Santa Rosa office.

San Bernardino County (August 1st)
Back to School Health Fair: San Bernardino County DCSS will participate in this free event to provide families with school readiness resources such as free haircuts, health checkups, dental checkups, healthy meal prep, teen health and safety material, story time, games and prizes.

Placer County (August 1st)
KidZone Carnival: The department will open the office to kids for an afternoon of fun and games; featuring various carnival-type games, backpack raffle, and hygiene kits; First Responders and their vehicles will be present to teach safety and for photo opportunities with the kids!

Monterey County (August 6th)
13th Annual Breastfeeding Awareness Walk & Health Fair: Child Support staff will be on-hand to provide information about the Child Support Program.

Merced County (August 7th)
Career & Resource Fair: This event is aimed at connecting parents with community partners, organizations and employers that offer services to support a better future for Merced County families.

Plumas County (August 15th, 16th & 17th)
Plumas Sierra Fair: Child support staff will be available to meet with parents to address questions on their child support case and provide program awareness.
