A Sweet Taste of the Season at the CA DCSS All Staff Holiday Party

Staff at the California Department of Child Support Services (CA DCSS) ate delicious, home baked desserts and laughed at the best of the worst ugly sweaters at this year’s All Staff Holiday party, held on Wednesday, December 12th. A Holiday Baking Contest was held, judged prior to the party by CA DCSS Deputy Director Mark Beckley and Director David Kilgore, who said his sugar-tasting limit was tested in this contest! Both judges considered the flavor and appearance of the dessert to determine who would take home a $15 gift card and bragging rights. First place was awarded to Tracie Potter for her caramel cake, which was coated in rich caramel and topped off with a powdered-sugar angel. It didn’t last ten minutes once the party started.

Though the treats were decidedly delectable, the highlight of the party was picking out the best of the worst attire worn in the Ugly Sweater contest. Information Technology Manager II Anthony Blue, by popular vote of loudest applause, was awarded a $15 gift card for donning a Christmas tree jacket complete with ornaments and a floppy, saggy Christmas tree top hoodie. When asked about his interesting apparel, he said the outfit was 50 percent off at Target, and he had taken one look at it and thought, “That’s ugly. That’s really ugly.”

Director Kilgore expressed admiration for the camaraderie he felt at the gathering and is ready to “up” his ugly sweater game next year. Watch out, Anthony. The competition could get uglier.
