CA DCSS Brings in the Birds for the Annual Turkey Drop

By: Kayleen Carter, CA DCSS

The California Department of Child Support Services (CA DCSS) staff members donated 79 turkeys, six hams and 17 pounds of turkey fixings for a total of 1,200 pounds of donations in this year’s Turkey Drop, held on November 15th to benefit the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. This year, CA DCSS collected 121 pounds more in donations compared to last year, including a dozen more turkeys. This year’s goal is to beat last year’s donation total of 9,281 pounds so organizers are shooting for 10,000 pounds in food and monetary donations. Kudos to the Executive Office, particularly the Office of Intergovernmental Services, for their generous donation of 29 turkeys and six hams, totaling 486 pounds; the most donated by any division. The Turkey Drop is the second event of the 2018 Food Drive, the kick-off was the “Bring a Dollar to make a Difference” promotion held on November 6th. Staff members were asked to donate just one dollar in one day – a total of $617 was collected! More opportunities will be coming up to show DCSS’ support for needy families which include the annual “Run to Feed the Hungry” on November 22nd and Giving Tuesday on November 27th.
