CA DCSS Staff Eat, Play, and Win at All Staff Picnic

On October 4th the California Department of Child Support Services (CA DCSS) held its annual All Staff Picnic to celebrate staff who dedicate so much of their lives to the Child Support Program. It was a beautiful day perfect for games, races, and of course, raffle prizes!

Staff across divisions at CA DCSS mingled with each other and enjoyed barbecue, including vegetarian options, and an afternoon outside of the office where we all rarely see each other. It was a great experience to see so many people enjoying the competitive giant Jenga games and even braving the slightly soggy field for some intense games of soccer and volleyball—one guy even played in socks! Now that’s dedication.

CA DCSS Director David Kilgore gave us all a peek into his competitive spirit as he bolted out of the gate in the final leg of the spoon and egg relay, nearly clinching the winning spot. Unfortunately, kicking an egg across the finish line doesn’t count. Congratulations to winners; Patrick Ito-Kiley, Paul Brizzi, Ram Nagasuri and Rashidi Mabry, Urvish Panchal, and Imran Mohammed.

CA DCSS Deputy Director Mark Beckley also showed us how dedicated he is to trying his best as he dove for the finish line in the potato sack race, covered in mud and all, but that still wasn’t enough to overtake Director David Kilgore who ultimately took home the title of Potato Sack Race Champion—anyone else sensing a theme here?

The weather was great for a water balloon toss and winners Ronald Quinn and Ernie Yee showed their finesse by making an impressive final throw and delicate catch to stay dry and clinch the Water Balloon Toss Champion title.

To show their appreciation to the people that help make this program a success, the CA DCSS Executive team donated money to purchase $5, $15, and $50 gift cards to places like Jamba Juice, Starbucks, Chili’s, Buca di Beppo, and more. A total of 40 gift cards were handed out at the raffle held at the end of the picnic. Congratulations to all the winners!

In the middle of the event, all of the attendees gathered together in the park’s amphitheater for a CA DCSS All Staff group photo, take a look at all those pearly whites!

“The entire Special Events Team did an incredible job of putting the event together,” Director Kilgore said. “From the planning for all of the services, to setting up, to serving food and taking everything down, thank you for all of the work you put in to make the event fun and such a big success.”
