Each year, the Center for Digital Media recognizes California state or local government agencies and educational organizations for their dedication, hard work, and contributions in information technology with their prestigious “Best of California” awards. This year, Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department (CSSD) received the award for “Most Innovative Use of Social Media and Citizen Engagement” for their #SupportLA Hashtag Campaign – beating out some big names, such as First 5 California and Covered California.
This is a testament to the extraordinary work of LA County CSSD’s Social Media Specialist, Judith Green, who has helped LA County CSSD expand its ability to tell its story beyond episodic community events. Judith was on hand to receive the award at the ceremony held on September 18th in Sacramento. In addition to this recognition, LA County CSSD has been receiving accolades from across the nation for its innovative and creative means of getting the word out about child support.
LA County CSSD recently expanded its social media presence and has been successfully using the hashtag #SupportLA as an aspect of a digital marketing campaign designed to help change public perception of the program and reach a larger audience, virtually cost-free. They went from having 10 Twitter impressions to over 41,000 in just under 6 weeks! The #SupportLA campaign is helping to improve the image of the child support program and increase the community’s ability to more easily find and apply for CSSD’s services. If you don’t follow LA County CSSD on social media yet, what are you waiting for? Follow them on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram – @CSSDLA – or by their award-winning hashtag – #SupportLA.
