August 4, 2018

Under the Sea Festival: Placer County DCSS held an Under the Sea Festival for Kids on August 2nd. Children attending enjoyed games and prizes and each family received a tote bag filled with goodies and a hygiene kit. A raffle was held and 30 children received a backpack filled with school supplies.

August 7, 2018

National Night Out Against Crime: Kings County DCSS was at Heritage Park in the City of Lemoore on August 7th to celebrate National Night Out Against Crime. This event was coordinated by the Lemoore Police Department to improve police and community partnerships in their city. Kings County DCSS provided the children with Face Painting and a Minion’s bean bag toss while ensuring parents got information about child support services.

August 9, 2018

Thursday Night Marketplace: Kings County DCSS held a Child Support Awareness Month event on August 9th at Hanford’s Thursday Night Marketplace. This event is held every Thursday from May to October with farm fresh produce, live music, food, and vendors of all sorts. Kings County DCSS staff members were able to educate the community on the child support program and connect with the children of the community by providing face painting, free books, glow sticks, bubbles, and a Minion bean bag toss!

Booth Decorating: Kings County DCSS also held a decorating contest of the office lobby and interview booths, as a way to engage staff and show appreciation to customers as well as promote Child Support Awareness. Staff who participated came up with a theme and showed off their creative sides.

The booth that won the contest: “Go to great depths for your children”.

Board of Supervisors Proclamation: Imperial County DCSS Board of Supervisors proclaimed August as Child Support Awareness Month on August 7th at the Imperial County Board Chambers. Staff from Imperial County DCSS were thanked for their efforts and important work in continuously serving the families of Imperial County.

Library Backpack Giveaway: Kern County DCSS partnered with library branches throughout Kern County in backpack giveaway events. Joined by support from the Kern County Board of Supervisors, Kern County DCSS was able to provide 1,000 free backpacks to children at these library events that were scheduled in conjunction with the library’s Summer Reading Program.

Ready-Set- Back 2 School Health & Wellness Fairs: Kern County DCSS gave away free backpacks with school supplies August 2nd through the 9th at their annual Ready-Set-Back 2 School Health & Wellness Fair! The same Fair in Ridgecrest and Bakersfield also invited hundreds of community partners and government agencies to interact with the community and share vital information on health, education, safety, wellness and more.

License Release Campaign: San Francisco County DCSS promoted a license release campaign under the slogan “$65 and Drive!” for the month of August. The campaign encouraged parents to make a payment during Child Support Awareness Month.

Meet & Greet: Merced County DCSS Child Support Specialist Desiree Bailey participated in the Merced Junior College Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education’s (C.A.R.E.) Meet & Greet held on August 17th.

Saturdays at the Park: Merced County DCSS had a Child Support Specialist available at Applegate Park each Saturday during the Month to August. Parents and family members were also treated to refreshments and a free Zumba class! Free tickets were given out to parents for the Kiddieland amusement rides.

CSAM Color of the Day Wednesday:

LA County CSSD showed solidarity in its continuous mission of helping parents and children by hosting a ‘Color of the Day Wednesday’.

LA Connect Day: On August 23rd, LA County CSSD organized their first ever Child Support CONNECT Day – bringing together community organizations, county departments, and government agencies in one location to provide valuable services and information to the residents of LA County. The event was held at Charles Drew University in Los Angeles. CSSD had caseworkers on-site with laptops and printers to provide on-the-spot case assistance.

13th Annual Back to School Resource Fair: LA County CSSD was excited to join the Special Needs Network for the biggest inclusion healthcare and resource fair in LA on Saturday, August 18th at the Mt. Carmel Recreation Center! Child Support Officer Robin Johnson joined Social Media Specialist Judith Green at the CSSD Resource Table – answering questions and providing information about the valuable services offered by LA County CSSD.

Backpack & School Supply Drive: LA County CSSD held a backpack and school supply drive throughout the month of August in honor of Child Support Awareness Month. Hundreds of backpacks and thousands of school supplies were collected to help benefit children at area schools and HeadStart programs.

Resource Table: LA County CSSD had resource tables set up at the Lancaster Courthouse on August 8th and 22nd. Ambassadors from the Antelope Valley office answered questions and provided services through CSE-enabled laptops and tablets.

On August 26th, Monterey County DCSS provided a booth to the City of Greenfield at Patriot Park for the annual event, El Dia del Trabajador (The Day of the Worker) with many resources, food and music.

Partnership for Safe Families and Communities of Ventura County Presentation: Ventura County DCSS gave a presentation about child support to the Partnership for Safe Families and Communities of Ventura County. The presentation covered information regarding on how families can protect their children from a potentially violent parent.

Divorce Transitional Professionals Presentations: Ventura County DCSS presented a presentation of services offered to the Camarillo chapter of the Divorce Transitional Professionals (DTP). Attendees were able to ask questions and receive general information.

August 7, 2018

San Jose Giants Game: Santa Clara County DCSS set up a child support resource table at the front of the San Jose Giants Baseball stadium on August 7th. There were two staff members available to answer the attendees’ questions about child support. There was also an announcement about Child Support Awareness Month on the JumboTron and public announcement by the announcer.

Breezeway Display: Santa Clara County DCSS had a table set up with materials at the main county building, where community members could view information about child support. There was also a monitor, where a streamline of Child Support Awareness Month videos could be viewed.

Santa Clara County Fair: Santa Clara County DCSS had a resource table set up at the Santa Clara County Fair. Staff were available to answer any questions the attendees had concerning child support.

Resource Fair: San Bernardino County DCSS hosted its first Resource Fair on August 20th, to highlight Child Support Awareness Month, community partners and other government agencies. Parents were able to learn about child support and children were able to enjoy games and win prizes.

August 24, 2018

Veteran’s Stand Down Event: San Joaquin County DCSS joined the San Joaquin County Superior Court to provide onsite services for the Veterans Stand Down event held at Cal Expo on August 24th. Homeless veterans from San Joaquin county were provided with transportation to the event in Sacramento, and staff members reviewed cases, explained court orders, provided information on the Compromise of Arrears Program and many other services.

Second Annual Backpack Drive: Contra Costa County DCSS held its Second Annual Backpack drive in honor of Child Support Awareness Month. Staff members from Contra Costa County DCSS were able to fill 60 backpacks with school supplies and held a raffle during the month of August. Winners were asked to pick up a backpack at the main office location.

Library Outreach: Santa Barbara County DCSS held outreach events at public libraries across Santa Barbara county, where community members could find resources and ask a staff representative about child support.
