Orange County DCSS Receives National Recognition

By: Steven Eldred, Orange County DCSS Director

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Orange County Department of Child Support Services (OC CSS) has been recognized with an Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo). Started in 1970, NACo’s annual Achievement Awards program is designed to recognize county government innovations and effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

OC CSS received recognition in the category of Personnel Management, Employment and Training for our Leadership Development Initiative.

One of my priorities is to promote staff and leader development. The Help Someone Grow campaign is a great example of our department-wide focus to encourage growth in current roles and to prepare for future opportunities. We promote leadership development and view it as crucial to our organization’s success, and as a result created the Leadership Development Initiative (LDI), which is a multi-layered program to support leaders in their roles. The initiative also promotes leadership training for all level of staff to prepare for future opportunities and to apply to day-to-day development. A proactive approach is taken to support leaders within the organization in achieving their development goals and to create an environment of succession planning to prepare for the future.

The LDI program is comprised of three main sections: Succession Planning, Quarterly Leadership Forums (LIFT and LEAD), and Annual Offsite Meetings. Each piece complements the others to form a solid foundation of support for our leaders in leadership and professional development.

NACo President Roy Charles Brooks said, “Counties seize opportunities to deliver services more efficiently and build stronger communities every day. Achievement Award-winning programs are examples for counties that are determined to enhance services for our residents.” Our leadership development efforts serve our customers through the services provided by engaged employees with supportive leaders. Please join me in a huge applause for our entire department to celebrate the recognition of our efforts to promote ongoing growth and development.
